Malva pudding

INGREDIENTS:
For the dough (for a diameter of 23-24 cm):
½ tea cup sugar
1 egg
1 ½ tablespoons orange or apricot jam
1 tea cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon vinegar
½ tea cup milk
orange zest

For the syrup:
1 tea cup sugar
½ tea cup water
1 tea cup liquid cream or non-sweetened condensed milk
100 ml Amarula (South African liqueur; can be omitted or replaced with Baileys)
30 g butter
vanilla
whipped cream for decoration

1 tea cup = 250 ml

PREPARATION:
Dough
Beat the sugar, egg, jam and milk together in a bowl. Add the flour, orange zest, baking powder and soda with vinegar. Beat again and transfer the mixture to a greased (with butter) and floured baking tray. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C for about 30 minutes. Meanwhile prepare the syrup and pour it onto the dough once you take it out of the oven. Decorate with whipped cream.

Syrup
Heat the cream, sugar, butter, water, vanilla and the liqueur until the sugar and butter melt.
