Fried sweet balls
INGREDIENTS:
For the dough:
450 g all-purpose flour
430 g water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 pack dry yeast (11g)
For the syrup:
3 tea cups sugar
2 tea cups water
2 teaspoons lemon juice
sunflower oil for frying
PREPARATION:
Dough
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Stir until they are well combined. The dough should be very sticky and almost liquid-like. Leave it to rest for about an hour, cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
Syrup
Boil the water, sugar and lemon juice until the syrup thickens a bit. Leave it to chill.
Stir the dough with a spoon and then it should be ready for frying. Heat the cooking oil in a deep frying pan. There should be lots of oil. When it’s well-heated grab some of the dough and clench your fist so that a small ball with the size of a walnut will get through between your thumb and your index finger. Using a spoon drop this ball into the cooking oil.
Repeat this until you run out of dough.
Cook until each side is golden in color. Take them out and soak them into the syrup. Serve immediately after cooking.
