INGREDIENTS:
Makes 5 burgers
5 burger buns
For the burgers:
400 g minced beef
~60 g crackers or biscuits (salted)
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg
parsley
black pepper
salt
For garnishing:
150 g bacon
2 onions (red or white)
½ teaspoon brown sugar
5 cheese slices (Cheddar or other)
Iceberg lettuce or similar
1 big tomato
Barbecue sauce (click HERE for the recipe)
mayonnaise
If you prefer a homemade mayonnaise, you can find a recipe HERE.
PREPARATION:
Burgers
Put the crackers into a plastic bag and crush them or blend them. You can choose different crackers depending on your taste. Here are the ones that I used:
Mix the crushed crackers along with the minced meat, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, finely cut parsley, black pepper and salt. Combine them well together and let the mixture rest for ½ hour, covered with plastic wrap.
Caramelized onion
Slice the onion into half Moons and fry it with a little cooking oil over medium heat and with a continuous stir until it caramelizes (about 10-15 minutes). Add ½ teaspoon brown sugar and cook for another few minutes.
Cut the bacon into very thin slices and fry them in a dry pan from both sides until it becomes crispy.
Rinse the tomato and slice it into thin circles. Tear or cut the lettuce into large pieces.
Divide the minced meat into 5 equal parts and using a metal cooking ring make 5 burgers that are a matching size with the burger buns.
Grill the burgers until they brown from both sides. Once you turn them around place a slice of the cheese onto each of them.
PREPARATION:
Separate the burger buns into two. Put a little mayonnaise onto the lower piece.
Add some lettuce and tomato.
Add the warm burger with the cheese.
Add some caramelized onion.
Add some crispy bacon.
And finish with the barbecue sauce.
Cover with the second part of the burger bun and serve.
